Healthy smoothie – cherry with secret spinach you can’t actually taste!

I’m not one to like many vegetables like at all, bad I know, so trust me on this one, this smoothie is a great way to get your spinach intake without actually tasting it! The cherries totally overtakes the spinach taste and you won’t even know it’s there!

Spinach is so good for you as it contains vitamin K, vitamin A, vitamin C, folic acid, manganese, magnesium, iron and vitamin B2 so it also helps maintain healthy bones and eye sight. A bonus is it’s super low in calories – 100g provides 23 calories!

Here is my recipe and method for making a healthy cherry spinach smoothie –

You will need:-

My smoothie maker is a Breville Active Blend that holds 1 litre of liquid so it takes a couple of goes to fit all the fruit in. If you have a bigger smoothie maker, some are 1.5L, then you could probably throw everything all in together!

I start off by chopping one large banana into the smoothie cup.

The amount of spinach I use varies each time – usually about 3 handfuls until it fills up the cup (wash it first)

I then add almond milk about 1/4 of the way up the cup and blend this together.

It will be a horrible green colour – don’t panic this will go away!

I then add one cup of frozen cherries (I get mine from Asda) and blend – add more milk if it doesn’t blend smoothly enough

The smoothie then turns a lovely red colour (make sure you give it a shake and blend again if there are bits of green) and all traces of spinach are gone just like that!

I always add two x 10g scoops of protein powder, usually strawberry flavour, which keeps me fuller for longer and adds a nice sweetness to the smoothie.

I pour it into a glass as sometimes there are spinach remnants left round the edge of the blender cup!

Voila there you go a healthy spinach rich smoothie that doesn’t even taste of spinach!

This is one of many different smoothie recipes I use – I love this one as it’s low cal and so healthy!
