It’s always interesting when fashion brands branch out into the makeup world as if you love their clothes you want to love their makeup.
New Look have recently re-vamped their beauty range and given it a whole new look (geddit?!) as well as adding some new products.
I heard from a friend that the New Look nail varnishes lasted really well on them so I thought I would give them a go.
PACKAGING
The packaging is pretty basic but that’s why it works because it has a very clean and modern feel to it.
The bottles are clear and square with capital lettering letting you know the type of varnish; plain, simple and to the point.
The names of the shades are on the back of the polish and the bottles are topped with a simple grooved black lid for easy grip.
FINISHES
There are four different types of varnish on offer, of which I’ve tried three: gel, matte, textured and the last one I haven’t tried is just your regular polish.
They also have base coats and top coats in the collection along with your usual nail accessories such as nail files etc. I also got the gel top coat to go with my gel varnish.
PRICE
All polishes are priced at £2.99 which is a very good price for a decent size bottle. They are usually on 3 for 2 (which is when I got mine) and they come in sets in a nice box which make great presents.
APPLICATION
Each polish has the same size brush which is a fairly wide one. This is my favourite kind as it coats the nail in a maximum of two strokes giving good coverage. They apply nicely and not patchy. Two coats is enough for all polishes.
The drying time on these is quite long it took a good hour to paint my nails overall including the top coat and I just don’t have time for nails to take this long so that was a disappointment for me. The top coat especially stayed tacky for a very long time which means you can’t do much whilst your waiting!
FINISH
Gel polish
The gel polish has a shiny gel-like finish that I would expect from a gel varnish and looks really nice. I got the shades Nude Rose an Heather.
Matte polish
This has a very matte finish which doesn’t look flat. I got the shade Dusty Pink and I really like the way this turned out!
Textured polish
This one is very glittery and sparkly without being chunky. It did look really nice as it was very opaque and pigmented with two coats. I got the shades Gunmetal and Heartbeat.
LASTING POWER
This is another hurdle they didn’t make as they chipped after a couple of days. They did last more than a day which is more than I can say about some nail varnishes I use but they didn’t last all that long after.
REMOVAL
They were quite hard to remove especially the textured one as it was glittery it took the absolute mick to take off!
OVERALL
These are a good price and the range of colours and the finish is lovely but the drying time and the chipping just doesn’t cut it for me, sorry New Look!
