New Bourjois Rouge Velvet Lipsticks – Tried and Tested

Recently I was lucky enough to be part of the Bourjois x Influenster campaign but as I’ve been away I’ve only just had a chance to try the new range of lipsticks from Bourjois – the Rouge Velvet Lipsticks.

In 12 colours Bourjois has released a velvet soft lipstick in a matte finish that claims to be long lasting. These were a pleasure to photograph and I’ve given them a test run and I’m ready to report my findings.

CLAIMS

These lipsticks claim to have a matte finish with a lasting power of up to 24 hours in a hydrating formula. I don’t know about you but 24 hours feels like a hella long time for a lipstick to last!

PACKAGING

The lipsticks have an opaque lid on a black bullet with a clear plastic lined bottom. The lid has a square top and the bottom is round, which makes it difficult to click shut IMO. The bullet itself is described as a tear drop shape which is meant for easy application.

COLOURS

There are 12 shades ranging from nudes to pinks to reds, a purple and an orange. There are a variety of pinks from bright to light and in between rose toned shades, as well as light to dark reds and an almost brown burgundy hybrid. There is definitely a shade for everyone!

APPLICATION

The tear drop shape does make for en easy application until you get to the corner of the lips. I think that compared to a pointed shape of a traditional lipstick, the tear drop is actually more difficult to manoeuvre once you reach the corners.

The bullet however glides on like butter and feels so soft on the lips. Surprisingly I found that one colour wasn’t as smooth as the others and that was number 06 which is the orange peach colour. Other than that the pigmentation is there with one swipe and the colour pay off is good.

RESULT

The lips look semi matte in my opinion and the lipstick feels light and weightless on the lips so they’re really comfortable to wear as you can barely tell it’s there. They aren’t transfer proof as it did transfer onto my chin whilst eating.

LASTING POWER

I’m not sure where this 24 hour claim came from, but it certainly wouldn’t last that long unless you wanted to go without eating or drinking.. After food and drink the colour goes patchy and needs another application.

PRICE

You can get these for £8.99 each and look out for 3 for 2 offers!

OVERALL

The feel of these lipsticks are so lovely as you can barely tell it’s there and the pigmentation is good.

Thank you so much for reading!
