Makeup Revolution are pushing new release after new release lately, supposedly making cheaper dupes of higher end products. For the price, I think they’re well worth a try, so I’ve been testing their Conceal and Define Concealer and Fast Base Stick Foundation to see if they match up the huge hype that’s been created round them.
Makeup Revolution Conceal and Define Concealer Review
The Makeup Revolution Conceal and Define Concealer has been hyped up SO much in the blogosphere, I couldn’t not try it. Dubbed as THE dupe for Tarte Shape Tape Concealer but for a measly four pound coins. I have it in shade C3.
Now personally I’ve never tried Shape Tape, but I know it was a large rounded doe foot and is of a creamy consistency. So all I can comment is that the Makeup Revolution Conceal and Define Concealer does have both of these characteristics.
The size of the Makeup Revolution Conceal and Define Concealer is only 3.4ml which compared to an average concealer, say Maybelline Fit Me at 6.8ml, is quite small but compared to Shape Tape which is a whopping 10ml, it’s tiny.
The packaging of the Makeup Revolution Conceal and Define Concealer is lightweight and cheap feeling, but looks nice with a rose gold applicator handle and rose gold label. Applying it is easy as you can cover a small area with a large swipe and it blends down really well with a beauty blender and provides good coverage.
Longevity however, is where it falls down. Within minutes, this has creased into every little line under my eye that I didn’t even know where there, and by the end of the day it looks absolutely terrible. I shared my disappointment on Instagram and got a mixed response – half agreed it was awful and half said they love it when they use it with powder to set it. I tried it with powder but it had creased before I even got to apply it, and it didn’t help.
It’s a shame this hasn’t been very good as it could have had so much potential given the good coverage and applicator, but the price point obviously means the formula isn’t up to scratch. I know there are a few that will disagree with me on this, but this is my experience after using an entire tube of it, which didn’t last long at all, might I add.
Makeup Revolution Fast Base Stick Foundation Review
The Makeup Revolution Fast Base Stick Foundation is another hyped up product that flew off the shelves the second they hit it. It took me a few attempts at Superdrug’s back in stock notifications as by the time I’d got on to buy it, it had gone in my colour already!
They do a huge range of colours for different shades and undertones, so props to them where it’s due on that one. I went for shade F3 as it’s for a pink and pale undertone. The Makeup Revolution Fast Base Stick Foundation costs just £5, and rivals the likes of Anastasia Beverly Hills in the high end range and L’Oreal on the high street.
I’ve seen many bloggers apply this, blend it seamlessly and be like “woah omg this is the best thing since sliced bread”. Like this has made magazines and online beauty websites go crazy for it. Me however, whether I’m just a makeup moron or it did not agree with my skin, could not get this to blend, stick, stay or even just be on my face in general. I tried to buff it in with a foundation brush, did not work. Tried to blend it out with my beauty blender, it just mushed in a bit more.
No matter what I did, I couldn’t get this to stay. Applying more just made it worse. I was going to work at the time so I gave up and applied my usual trusty foundation over it and my foundation lasted even worse than it usually does and started to break apart because of the stick foundation underneath.
So all in all, both of these have been a big fat fail. I would say I’m disappointed, but actually, for that price point, can I really be surprised? Alternatively, the formulas just do not agree with my skin. Either way, I shan’t be repurchasing/keeping them.
