The new player in the makeup removal game | Garnier Micellar Cleansing Gel Wash Review

The micellar water hype has been real for a long time now and for good reason – it takes off makeup super well and it’s a really affordable option for makeup removal.

Garnier have been one of the big brands in the micellar market and now they have introduced a new player to the game – a Micellar Cleansing Gel Wash.

I was dubious at first and saw mixed reviews but when I saw it on offer in Asda for £2.50 I thought why not give it a bash, so I did!

The packaging of this is similar to that of the micellar water, but smaller and with a pump for the gel.

This is a micellar gel wash instead of a water that you wipe off your makeup with cotton pads. The product recommends to apply to a wet face, leather up and wash off with no rubbing required as it acts like a magnet to remove makeup.

My first impressions of this were not great – it smells very alcohol like and the scent is quite strong. The write up says it contains grape extract but this is not apparent in the scent at all which is disappointing as I imagine if it was it would be lovely!

I wet my face and lathered this up all over with one pump which didn’t create many bubbles and it made my eyes sting. A test with a cream cleanser and a cotton pad reveals that unfortunately the “magnet” claim this is not true. Lots of makeup remained on my face there is no way I could have left it like that so I had to do it twice before everything was gone.

This does however, work nicely with my makeup remover cloth, which I reviewed here, as the lather helps to remove makeup little better than just water. I will continue to use it alongside this but no way will I be using it on its own.

After using this properly it did leave my face feeling squeaky clean and fresh so it is such a shame that it takes so much useage before makeup is fully off and it does sting your eyes so if you have sensitive eyes especially I would definitely avoid this!

Unfortunately this is a no from me and I won’t be re-purchasing it. Garnier my advice is to stick to your micellar water range!

Have you tried this? What did you think? I’d love to know your thoughts below!
