The hype is real around the Anastasia Beverly Hills Modern Renaissance Palette. Every man and his dog are raving about how amazing it is and it was popping up everywhere. I’m talking all over Instagram multiple times a day, Twitter, YouTube, everyone was loving it.
The more I saw it the more I fell in love with the colours. Honestly the colours that drew me in were the reds, but the whole palette is warm toned and in the end I knew I had to have it. One of those products you just couldn’t stop thinking about until it was in your possession, you know what I mean?
So I broke my new year palette ban (of course, cos when do I ever stick to not buying makeup) and used my Christmas money (so technically it was a present, which makes me feel a little bit better about it) took the plunge and placed it in my basket. I ummed and ahhed until I just pressed the order button and it was soon to be mine.
ABH is an American brand that until recently was super hard to get in the UK but now is available on Cult Beauty and Beauty Bay.
When I opened the parcel, I was absolutely amazed at the luxurious velvet packaging, I have never seen a palette like it before in my life. It’s so beautiful I could look at it forever! I was even more in awe at the beautiful warm toned shades inside.
There is a mix of matte and metallic shadows and the shade range is neutrals, browns, golds, taupes, pinks, reds and oranges. So beautiful!
Now I hadn’t actually read any thorough reviews on this palette before I bought, just countless pretty photos and descriptions of “this is the best palette ever” and “my favourite palette in the world” and had I actually done my research (silly Sophie) I wouldn’t have been so shocked at my first swatch.
So I took photos of this before I used it, standard blogging behaviour, then swatched it during the photo session before applying to my eyes. When I swatched the shades there was so much kick up I was so disappointed, but this does not transfer at all to the eyes when you apply it.
After swatching it, I watched a YT video where Kathleen Lights talks about this and she confirmed to me that kick up is only when you swatch and not when you actually put it on your eyes so I was so relieved she said this was the case too.
The shadows are so buttery and creamy you would have no idea there was kick up when you got it onto your brush and it does not fall out once on your eyes it stays put, as pigmented as ever.

The colour pay off is amazing and you don’t need much to create a gorgeous eye look.
I am yet to play with many shades, but I went for a reddy/pink and gold look the other night using a mix of Venetian Red and Love Letter in the crease and Primavera on the lid and got loads of compliments about it!
The shades blend really well and they all compliment each other nicely and now I absolutely love this palette and I am so glad I took the plunge and made it mine.
At £41 it is super expensive for only 12 shades but this is definitely a luxury treat or would make a beautiful gift for someone. I definitely do not regret my purchase!
