Dermalogica are one of my favourite skincare brands and the cult moisturiser they’re most known for, is the Skin Smoothing Cream*. But as an oily skin sufferer, I wondered whether this was the most suitable for my skin type and that’s when I was introduced to Active Moist* by a Dermalogica therapist whilst trying out one of their facials. So I thought I’d compare the two and see which is most suitable for oily skin.
About Dermalogica

Dermalogica Active Moist
Active moist is oil-free and provides hydration without a greasy feel and has a sheer formula that goes on quickly. It smooths and helps improve skin texture. It is really lightweight and dries quickly, so for an oily skinned gal, it feels perfect and it still moisturises the drier patches such as my cheeks. My makeup applies great on top of it, and especially if I have a no makeup day, or even if I wear makeup, my skin doesn’t get as oily as quickly as it would, had I used a cream not suitable for oily skin. I highly recommend this if you suffer from oily skin! Buy it here in 100ml* and here in 50ml*.
Dermalogica Skin Smoothing Cream
The Skin Smoothing Cream uses Active HydraMesh Technology, which infuses skin with 48 hours of hydration and helps to protect against environmental stressors. It is a very nice moisturiser and has a velvet soft feel. It applies nicely to the skin, sinking in fairly quickly and leaving skin feeling nourished. If I use this on a no makeup day, I find my skin produces oil a lot quicker than if I use the Active Moist, and I see no other benefits to using this over the Active Moist to make it worthwhile using this, as I become oily faster. I have been using this at night time if I want a lighter but hydrating moisturiser option over a heavier night cream. It isn’t my first choice for a day cream, but it’s better for my oily skin than other creams I’ve tried. Buy it here in 100ml* and here in 50ml*.
Which Dermalogica Moisturiser is best for oily skin?
I do really like the Skin Smoothing Cream, but the Active Moist wins it for me as it means I can wear it and keep oil at bay for longer and still feel moisturised and hydrated. So the winner for all us oily skinned gals, has to be the Active Moist!
