Is it possible to fall in love with a palette? Because I think I did when I received this beautiful thing in the post, I was like a kid at Christmas and I definitely went all heart eyes emoji.
If you haven’t heard of the Urban Decay Naked Heat Palette* by now, where have you been?! It’s the newest addition to the Naked family, bringing warm and bronzed tones to the collection.
I know a few bloggers received these beauties in the post, so when I opened a purple package with this inside, I couldn’t quite believe my eyes, my luck and my fortune. I think my blogging life was made right there and then, I was so giddy!
There have been a few mixed opinions on this palette, so now the hype has died down a bit, I thought I’d give my ten cents on the matter. So keep reading for swatches and my opinion on the palette.
PACKAGING
Is this just not the most beautiful thing you’ve ever seen?! The burnt orange running through the entire palette is complimented by the fiery holographic lid with beautiful raised gold lettering.
It’s housed in a box designed to look like a match box, which slides out to reveal the palette. Definitely my favourite Naked packaging yet.
The packaging is super sturdy and robust and is deserved of its high end status.
A mirror lays inside the entire lid and it comes with the double ended brush of all the Naked palettes, one end for blending and one end for a detailed crease.
SHADES
The palette houses 12 shades of both mattes and shimmers in warm, burnt orange, red and terracotta tones together with brown and copper shades.
SWATCHES
Ounce is an ivory shimmer perfect for highlighting the inner corner or brow bone, Chaser is a light nude matte, Sauced a terracotta matte, Low Blow is a matte medium brown, Lumbre is a coral red shimmer with a gold shift, He Devil is a burnt red matte, Dirty Talk is an orange toned copper shimmer, Scorched is a copper with a rose gold metallic shift, Cayenne is an orange toned brown matte, En Fuego is a dark red brown toned matte, Ashes is a deep plum matte finishing with Ember a brown toned bronze metallic.
APPLICATION
The pigmentation of the shimmer shades is absolutely insane! One swipe and the colour payoff is so intense.
The mattes are a bit less impressive on the arm, but do not be fooled, you only need a tiny bit for the lids as they are soo pigmented you need to be careful not to use too much. As long as you use a clean brush to blend it out then you will be fine.
LOOKS
This warm toned palette will definitely do what it promises – create a bunch of warm looks for both day and night and the ability to create a warm smokey eye.
The only thing I would say is missing is a darker brown matte for a crease shade and maybe a more gold toned shade but apart from that I absolutely love the shades in this palette.
You can use the mattes to define the crease and to smoke out the corner, and the intense shimmers can be packed on the lid to finish the smokey look.
LASTING POWER
I’ve been wearing these in the hottest sweatiest sunniest weather you could imagine in the Bahamas and it has stayed completely in tact with minimal creasing and this is without eyeshadow primer!
PRICE
This palette costs £39.50 which is the same price point as the others in the Naked range. For 12 shades, that makes it £3.30 per shade at 1.3oz which, when you compare it to say Makeup Geek pans at £6 for 1.8oz of shadow, is a pretty good deal.
Whilst I like individual pans, I much prefer a palette so I only have to reach for one product full of shades I know have been expertly put together to work well.
This coupled with the sturdy and robust packaging makes it honestly worth the price in my opinion.
WORTH THE HYPE?
I know a lot of people have said that as long as you have Violet Voss Holy Grail or Morphe 35O you don’t need this palette, but I don’t believe this is entirely true.
First of all the Holy Grail palette has a few other shades in there that are more pink toned, which for me isn’t what a “heat” look is all about. Whilst I’ve never had it myself, I understand the packaging is cardboard which for me isn’t as high end quality as the Naked Heat.
The Morphe 35O is a cheaper alternative with 35 shades, but the palette doesn’t have the same attraction to me. The plain black packaging isn’t as eye catching and as Morphe are unlicensed and use shades other brands use as well, I don’t feel the same care and attention is put into the palette as UD do for theirs.
In some ways you’re paying for the brand, but given the cult status that UD rightly holds, I think it’s worth every penny. UD are yet to release a product I hate and I am very much on the Naked Heat band wagon.
So for me, it is 100% worth the hype. Thank you so much to Urban Decay for sending me my new favourite palette! It was definitely a pinch me moment and I am very grateful to be part of the UD gang!
