ColourPop BFF Mascara is a fairly recent release from ColourPop, which is an entirely new product to their offerings. If you’ve been following my blog for a while, you’ll know I’m a real ColourPop fan, so whenever they release a new product, I usually have to have it. For so long ColourPop have had so many eyeshadows and palettes, but never a mascara, so as soon as they released one, I just had to give it a go.

Claims of the ColourPop BFF Mascara
The BFF Mascara launched a couple of months ago and claims to instantly lifts lashes while volumising and lengthening. I have the Black on Black shade, which says it is the blackest black formula. The twisted nylon fiber brush (which looks a lot like Too Faced Better Than Sex Mascara) is allegedly shaped to comb each lash from root to tip for a build able look that never clumps. There are also six other very colourful shades available in the BFF range.

ColourPop BFF Mascara packaging
The ColourPop BFF Mascara comes in a pretty basic white tube with handwritten print in the colour of the mascara shade on the lid and the name of the mascara on the tube. After only a few days of using it, the print started to rub off and it looks really scruffy now, which is a real shame.

How the ColourPop BFF Mascara applies
The wand is the bristle brush type that I like with the hourglass shape. It has quite a thick formula that when applied to the lashes, doesn’t perform the way it is described to do. I found it applied quite lumpy and wet and it makes the lashes quite clumpy and spider like and not separated at all. In terms of volume, I would say it does add volume to the lashes but the clumpiness for me ruins it a bit.

Lasting power
This is another hurdle where I was quite disappointed – this mascara flaked off, stained the skin and settled into the lines around my eyes quite early on in to the day and didn’t last well at all. If you try and top it up it goes extra clumpy and clings to the ends only, rather than coating the whole lash.

Removal
It’s also surprisingly difficult to remove and I was surprised at how stubborn it was – it sticks around under my eyes and goes into my waterline and eyeballs when I remove it in the same way I usually do (using the Boots sensitive cream eye makeup remove I always use). For a mascara that flakes and stains, I thought it would be really easy to get off. I’ve actually had to stop using it as it keeps getting in my eyes and it’s hurting them to try and get it out.

Price point
The BFF Mascara is priced at $8 which is approximately £6.30 in English pounds. For a mascara, this is a very affordable price and is cheaper than the likes of Maybelline and other drugstore mascaras. I think if I’d paid much more than £8 for this, I would be disappointed because I just don’t think it performs well enough.

Overall
Overall I’m quite disappointed with the BFF Mascara because I don’t think it performs well enough for the claims it makes. I was really hoping this would be a great alternative for my favourite Too Faced mascara but sadly not. I only use this on a day when I don’t need my makeup to last. I love ColourPop so it always saddens me to find a product that I don’t like from them!

I wonder if the coloured mascaras perform differently and whether or not the formula is the same. Shame this one isn’t a standout for you – the packaging is cute though! xx
I would love to know this too! the whole thing was quite disappointing! thanks for reading lovely xx
