Department stores are not where I first think to look when I want to shop for for makeup, So when I was invited to the House of Fraser Beauty event at INTU Nottingham I couldn’t wait to see what they had to offer.
When I arrived I was greeted with a glass of prosecco and a luxury goodie bag especially for us bloggers in House of Frasers signature bright pink bag.
The event was to show what House of Fraser can offer in terms of beauty and the various brands and services available all in one place.
After an explanation by the lovely organiser Flo we were set free with our drinks to go and browse the floor.
HoF houses brands such as Bobbi Brown, Bare Minerals, YSL, Benefit and Urban Decay and Clinique to name a few and also boasts an impressive fragrance section. There were makeup artists on hand at each brand concession to give mini makeovers and tips.
After having a wander round and lusting after the new Benefit Galifornia blush, I found myself at the Urban Decay stand eyeing up their new liquid vice lippies and trying to convince myself I need backtalk in my life when I spotted the new setting sprays. The new packaging meant the old one was in clearance so I snapped up a travel size for a bargain £7!
With every purchase we were given a raffle ticket as well as in our goodie bag so this meant I had two tickets now for the fabulous raffle prizes on offer.
Me with the other bloggers, Jake who kindly organised the event with us, Loren and Indy
Heading back to Urban decay, fellow blogger Indy fierce was getting her makeup done by the fabulous Alyssa the MUA in the stand so I watched as she worked her magic and we chatted about makeup hints and tips.
This is where I learnt two life changing beauty hacks. The first I see just how important setting sprays is in a routine – Alyssa demonstrated this amazing revelation to us by swiping the UD bronze palette on both arms. One she sprayed with setting spray, the other she left and asked us to try and wipe them off her arm.
The powder alone rubbed off straight away, but the one that was set would. not. come. off! Indy and I rubbed and rubbed but we could not get it off her arm. I was absolutely stunned at just how much power a setting spray has and if I wasn’t convinced before, I sure as hell am now!
Alyssa recommended 8-10 sprays for lasting power and since then that’s what I’ve done and my makeup has stayed put much longer, even on the sweaty tubes in London!
The second hack is how to apply winged liner. This is something I am the first to admit I am shit at as I just can’t get the wing right. She showed us how to do it by holding the pen with the end of the handle pointing upwards in the direction of your wing and almost printing it on rather than drawing and also said it should point up towards where your eyebrows end.
After I had my eyes done with the beautiful Naked 3 palette it was time to draw the raffle! There were so many fab prizes to win and I was lucky enough to win a perfume bundle! (Yes I know I won again, save the comments 😉 )
Inside were lots of sample size perfumes, a couple of larger samples and two large body lotions.
When I saw Viktor rolph floerbomb I thought it was a full size bottle but alas I was not so lucky and it was a sample with body lotion, cream and shower gel. I love the packaging of this with the printed logo.
I was also surprised at how much I love this Narciso Rodriguez For Her scent – it’s such a gorgeous fragrance, sweet yet light, one I’d never heard of before let alone tried so I’m really please do to have a generous sample of this.
Heres what we got in our goodie bag I can’t wait to try out all my samples! There were some bits for men as well so Jay is happy!
If you’re off shopping this weekend anywhere in the UK and go near a House of Fraser, pop in to see what they have to offer as it is a great way to browse all your favourite brands all under one roof and go and talk to the MUAs who really know their stuff about makeup and the products on offer.
Thank you to Jake and Flo for organising such a fab event for us all!
