Function of Beauty hair care seemed to be everywhere on social media not long ago, so I was hugely influenced to purchase it and give their shampoo and conditioner a go. I’ve been using it for around four months now, so I’ve got a good idea as to whether Function of Beauty is worth the hype.

What is Function of Beauty
Function of Beauty is a beauty site that lets you customise your beauty products based on your personal needs, so the ingredients are all catered to you. They do hair care and now skin care and body products, but so far I’ve just tried their Shampoo and Conditioner.
How does it work
When you sign up to Function of Beauty you take a hair quiz or a skin care quiz to determine what your main concerns are and what issues you want to tackle with your products. With the hair care, you can choose exactly what colour you want each product to be, as well as the different scents. I went for orange and peach coloured products and the peach scent.
When you sign up, it does sign you up to an ongoing subscription, which you can cancel at any time. I didn’t know this, until I received an email six months after my first purchase to let me know they were charging me again, so just bare that in mind!
You can also purchase extras such as hair masks and hair oils, but I haven’t tried any of these yet. I purchased mine with the Zoella collab, so I also got some silk hair scrunchies with it. They do these scrunchies outside of the collab, but without the Z label on.
Packaging
The packaging is lovely, the bottle will say your name and your first order comes with the bottles and the pumps. You get stickers to customise your bottles, as well as a personalised “menu” setting out your goals. You only get pumps included free of charge in your first order, so if you go for a second order keep your pumps or you will have to pay extra for new ones. It really does have a personalised touch which makes it feel a little bit extra special and more worth the price point.
My Function of Beauty goals
For my goals I chose:
- anti-frizz
- color protection
- oil control
- replenish hair
- thermal protection
As my hair is thick, salon dyed, wavy, suffers from frizziness, gets oily and I use straightener’s on it daily.
My thoughts on the shampoo and conditioner
On my first use of Function of Beauty Shampoo and conditioner, I noticed a big difference. My hair felt smooth and soft and was noticeably less frizzy and straw like. Each time I use the products, it feels the same way even four months later. My hair hasn’t gotten “used to it” which it does with some shampoos and it still provides all the benefits. My hair also smells absolutely amazing and my hair smells good for ages after.
A little does go a long way with these products so you don’t need much and it lasts a long time. It’s worth noting I wash my hair once a week as it’s thick and I can sustain a week in between washes, so using this every other wash, (with a purple shampoo wash in between) has meant it has lasted four months with me, however bare in mind if you plan to use it more frequently than me it won’t last as long.
Is Function of Beauty worth the hype?
I would say I was dubious at first but keen to try it and after using it for such a long time, it really is worth the hype it’s given. It’s a little on the pricey side, and I think I will only buy these every six months as per the subscription, but I do really love the results. I have got another order to come with the new Mango scent and with pink colouring, so I’m excited to get these.
