So everyone has been raving about the St Tropez In Shower Tanning Lotion Gradual Tan since it came out – it sold out on Boots.com so quickly and nobody could get it anywhere.
The other day I popped into the main Boots in town and saw some at the front of the store with 1/3 off the price making it £9.50 instead of £14.50
Being the pasty girl I am who can barely tan in the sun due to the need to put factor 50 on every time and the fact that
I am rubbish at putting on fake tan or gradual tan without going patchy I thought I would give it a go!
There was a helpful video on the Boots.com website that I watched before applying which suggested you start from the bottom and work up using circular motions to ensure even coverage.. so naturally I started at the top (oops). It suggest leaving feet and hands last and then washing your palms afterwards.
it is quite easy to put on and it soaps up nicely which does make it easy to apply and it is fairly easy to ensure everywhere is covered! it smelt a little which is to be expected of any gradual tan but I thought the smell wasn’t as bad as some I have tried.
Then you have to wait 3 minutes…
The video suggested cleaning your teeth to pass the time, which I did forgetting that whenever I do I make a huge mess and I had toothpaste running down my arm…I’m seriously hoping the tan won’t develop leaving a white line where my toothpaste trickled…
Anyway I washed it off after the 3 minutes (the bottle does say to not exceed the 3 minutes) and patted myself dry.
The bottle recommends applying every other day for a nice gradual tan. I have been applying it mostly every other day and I haven’t noticed that much of a difference, if anything there is a very very subtle difference but I am not tanned by any means!
I have also found it smells a little for the rest of the day after you have had it on however nobody else has said they can smell it on me so maybe its just me!
Overall I am a little disappointed with this product but having said that I have bought it again in the hope it will start to work the more I put on!

If they sell Bondi sands brand in the UK I would definitely recommend weather the gradual tan or the mousse. My experience is that St. Tropez tends to have a orange tint although it is darker at first. Bondi sands on the other hand leaves such a natural brown glow on your skin. So in case you want to start experiment with fake tans that would be a pretty safe option.
