Marks and Spencer’s own brand Formula has launched some swanky new face masks in their Skin Solutions range, catering for a variety of skincare needs. There are three masks to choose from; hydrating, purifying and moisturising. I was sent all three to try and review.*
Formula Skin Solutions Charcoal Purifying Face Mask
“Leaves skin feeling deeply cleansed, purified and detoxified”
Marks and Spencer
This mask uses ingredients such as kaolin and salicylic acid to draw out impurities and unclog those pores. The Charcoal Purifying Mask is dark grey and has a soft texture to touch. On application it almost feels mousse like and a little spreads a long way on the skin. You leave it on for 10 minutes and as it dries, it goes a very light grey and you can see it sinking into all your pores (please tell me I’m not the only weirdo that finds that strangely satisfying and not able to take my eyes off it?!)
It removes really well with a flannel/makeup remover cloth and doesn’t leave your skin feeling super tight but instead it feels squeaky clean. I love a detoxifying mask as I have oily skin, and I especially love that this one doesn’t make your face feel dry or tight. A massive thumbs up from me! Get yours here.*
Formula Skin Solutions Rose Water Hydrating Face Mask
“Leaves skin feeling hydrated, plump and soothed”
Marks and Spencer
This is a gorgeous rosy red and has the most fascinating jelly like texture. The Rose Water Hydrating Face Mask uses hyaluronic acid and rose water to soothe and plump the skin and is even suitable for sensitive skin, which I would say is true as it didn’t sting or feel uncomfortable at all. I applied it with my fingers and it felt amazing on the skin – it had a cooling and soothing effect due to it’s jelly like texture.
The formula looks clear on the face and doesn’t slide about whilst you’re waiting for it to work its magic. It was super easy to remove and my skin felt wonderfully hydrated and genuinely did feel plumped and healthy afterwards. I love using this after my purifying mask to feed my skin it’s hydration back! Formula Skin Solutions Coconut Deeply Nourishing Face Mask
“Leaves skin feeling deeply nourished, more comfortable and replenished”
Marks and Spencer
This uses coconut, cocoa butter, jojoba, muru muru butter and shea butter to deeply nourish and replenish the skin. It has a thick cream texture and applies with the fingers like a moisturiser. The coconut scent smells amazing and good enough to eat (although defo don’t be tempted!) Now when I applied this one, my skin stung for a few minutes which I was surprised about, as the ingredients used aren’t exactly ones that I’m not used to and would be adverse to using, so I was a bit confused. It did die down and the final five minutes of the mask were fine, and I was left with no visible signs of irritation after.
I wiped it off as instructed rather than leaving it on overnight and my skin was fine. I didn’t feel like it was majorly changed, it felt a bit like I had a film over my skin. So this wasn’t my favourite out of the three, but everyone has different skin types and not every mask will suit every person! Two out of three is a winner in my eyes. So in conclusion with this – I would personally advise you to avoid if you have sensitive skin, but if your skin type is usually robust to most products but you have particularly dry skin, I think you would really benefit from this mask. Overall
I think these are fab masks and a great addition to the Formula family. Each mask is cruelty free and suitable for vegetarians. Each mask costs £14 to buy for 50ml of product. The glass tub feels luxe and could be used again for de-potting other products for travel etc. They get a thumbs up from me!
Thank you Marks and Spencer for sending me them to try. If you’ve tried them yet, I’d love to know your thoughts!
